On October 23-27, the 76th plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee for Cotton was held in Tashkent.
About 1500 experts, practitioners, analysts, as well as marketers, scientists and breeders of leading research institutes and local young specialists attended at the event.
-Today, the term “modern agriculture” is widely used in practice. This means the need to adapt to the recent global climate change, ecological threat. By this we mean the production of high yields due to the application in practice of advanced agricultural technologies, resource-saving methods, the creation of new varieties of cotton that oppose low-water and the changing severe climate changes.
In this regard, the ongoing agricultural reforms in Uzbekistan are introducing modern methods of corporate governance in the cotton industry, creating new varieties of cotton, using water-saving technologies, combating biological damage with agricultural producers, which are important factors in strengthening its status at the international cotton market.
Undoubtedly, this large forum is comprehensively useful for the industry’s prospects. In addition, all the topics discussed within the framework of the event are of a serious nature. At the same time, there are many promising tasks, the implementation of which is necessary in the future.
Another important aspect is that our meeting coincided with the regular International Cotton and Textile Fair, which allowed the participants to get acquainted with the social, economic, especially investment potential of your country, implemented reforms, the effectiveness of innovation projects. This, of course, further strengthens the confidence of foreign businessmen in investing in the real sector of the economy, particularly in the textile sector.
Kai Hughes – the Executive Director of the International Cotton Advisory Committee
First of all, I congratulate you on holding a high-level plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee. At the event, I followed the speeches of Uzbek specialists with special attention. And I was convinced that the reason for the high level of Uzbek cotton production in the international arena is a rich scientific practice, application of modern technologies in the cotton production and processing industry.
Andrew MacDonald, Brazil
The next meeting of the International Cotton Advisory committee was commissioned by the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. I must say, we note the good experience of Uzbekistan in the organizational plan and this will be an important factor for us. From the holding of sessions to the holding of cultural events, it was carefully thought out. We have the opportunity to take advantage of the rich experience not only of global cotton production, but one of the leading in this branch of Uzbekistan. Along with this, without any doubt, we were very pleased with the hospitable people, cultural monuments, national dishes of this country. We return to our homeland with the most pleasant memories of Uzbekistan.
Sillouye Kassum,Director-General of the cotton producers’ union Cote-id, Iuvar
Today, one of the most important issues facing the industry is the improvement of the state of land on which cotton is grown. Because of the salinization of land due to environmental impact, the fertility of land is decreasing. To prevent this phenomenon, first of all, it is necessary to improve the land reclamation state, based on organic principles of agriculture, to use chemical means as fully as possible. In this regard, the implemented projects in Uzbekistan deserve attention.
Allan Williams, head of the ICAC group of experts (SEEP)
Not for nothing was elected the venue for the 76th plenary meeting of the committee of Uzbekistan. Because your country has a huge experience of holding large events, large forums. This is an example of holding the 55th plenary meeting of the organizationat a high level here in 1996, having just been elected a full member of the committee in 1992. This time, too, the event was organized at a high level. I express great benevolence to the government of Uzbekistan for the high organizational work.
Iqbol Hasan, secretary of the textile ministry of Pakistan.
The International Cotton Advisory Committee does not set the price of cotton, does not interfere in its market mechanisms. However, its secretariat providesvery valuable information for determining the current state of the market. Therefore, he monitors scientific developments in the production of organic cotton, the creation and testing of new varieties of cotton. It actively participates in objective determination of fiber characteristics. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for creating comprehensive convenient conditions for discussing pressing problems, as well as holding events at a high organizational level.
