Foreign guests visiting the Science Center

On September 9-11, 2019, Tashkent hosted the 8th meeting of the Asian Cotton Research and Development Network, led by the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) began operations in September of 1939 in the United States. Today, Uzbekistan is also a part of the ICAC along with such countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, the Republic of Korea, Russia, USA, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, etc. This Committee conducts its activities as the international office for promotion of cotton and cotton products.

The ICAC formed the Asian Cotton Research and Development Network in 1999. Since then, seven network meetings have been held – in Pakistan (1999), Uzbekistan (2002), India (2005), China (2008), Pakistan (2011), Bangladesh (2014) and India (2017).

The main theme of the 8th meeting is “Global best sustainable practices for adding value to production, processing and by-products”. The meeting focused on cotton technology for Asian countries to increase yields at the lowest and most sustainable cost.

On September 10th the ICAC delegation led by Executive Director Mr. Kai Hughes, Director of the Statistics Department Mr. Andrei Gitchunts and Head of the Technical Information Section Mr. Keshav Kranti visited JSC Pakhtasanoay Ilmiy Markazi.

The guests familiarized with the activities of the Scientific Center, in particular with the scientific arbitration laboratory, the experimental laboratory, on the basis of which prototypes of equipment developed at the Scientific Center, standardization and metrology department, production automation department, as well as the Center for Advanced Training for the Ginning Industry workers and Information Center and Resource Center.

Meetings were held with the management and young scientists of the Center, the parties exchanged information on the ongoing scientific work, and answers were given to numerous questions regarding the technologies of primary processing of cotton, quality standards and certification.

Mr. Kai Hughes praised the achievements of the Science Center over the past year and a half. Recommendations were given on organization of the work of the arbitration laboratory and expressed readiness to cooperate with the Scientific Center in publication of the scientific journal.
